WHAT ARE PRIVATE SPANISH CLASSES @ OLSA INTERNATIONAL?
Private Spanish classes at OLSA International are an excellent way to get some extra one-on-one Spanish help as you work on other programs at the school. These classes are often used in conjunction with our Conversational Spanish classes as part of OLSA’s “Design your own program” concept. Due to the intensity, we recommend no more than two Private Spanish classes per day.
In addition to OLSA’s Conversational Spanish programs, many students use the Private Spanish classes for international Spanish test preparation (DELE), personal tutoring and/or accelerated Spanish learning. Students are encouraged to come to class with a personal goal in mind, but our teachers are always prepared to help students identify their Spanish strengths and weaknesses in order to develop an academic plan that fits their goals, abilities and schedule.
Classes meet four days per week – Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm – either in person or virtually. Other times may be arranged. Private Spanish Classes have a duration of 50 minutes per class. Our teachers come prepared with materials to operate the class, but student input is highly recommended for class efficiency and optimized learning.

A portion of every Spanish class tuition goes to The OLSA Foundation to help impoverished Colombians learn conversational English skills; to help them better compete in the job market.

UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE PURCHASING
PASSIVE LEARNING: The curriculums for the large majority of Spanish schools in the Medellin area are fill-in-the-blank / worksheet-driven. These exercises are similar to the DuoLingo approach to language learning, considered aprendizaje pasivo., and are good for vocabulary building and language theory (Spanish knowledge). These techniques develop reading and writing abilities, but are weak in listening and speaking/conversational skills.
ACTIVE LEARNING: OLSA students practice and learn Spanish through actually listening, processing and speaking Spanish with native Spanish-speaking teachers. The result is improved Spanish fluency (not just Spanish knowledge). This is what is needed if you would like to meet and speak with Colombians at events or on the street. This concept of learning Spanish through practice in-real-time is called aprendizaje activo and is the preferred method for language learning for those who wish to interact (not text) with native Spanish speakers.
